Malick Thiaw was full of praise for Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes after his brilliant goal against Burnley.
In truth, Newcastle United started little short of awfully against Burnley at St James’ Park.
The Clarets had the run of proceedings in the opening exchanges until Newcastle found a foothold on home soil.
Guimaraes was crucial to that. The Brazilian became the first Toon player in Premier League history to score directly from a corner as Newcastle beat Burnley 2-1.
Who was your MOTM vs Burnley?!
Hard to pick one!
The Magpies skipper is now up to five goals in the Premier League this season, matching the haul he amassed during the 2024/25 campaign.
The 28-year-old’s best ever goalscoring season came back in 2023/24, a season in which he bagged seven Premier League goals. Few would doubt him beating that this time around on current evidence.
His effort against the Clarets was absolutely stunning and Thiaw summed it up best on social media.
Malick Thiaw tells Bruno Guimaraes that he’s “crazy good”
Following the game, Guimaraes posted a collage of images on Instagram.
The post was naturally led on a photo of him lifting up the corner flag, soaking up the applause of the Geordie faithful.
Thiaw, who has also felt the love of Newcastle fans this season, responded with the words: “You are crazy good bro.”
Did Bruno Guimaraes mean to score from a corner?! Or are you blaming Martin Dubravka 😂
The first Newcastle United player to ever score a Premier League goal directly from a corner 😎
The proof that Bruno Guimaraes is Newcastle United’s most important player
Thiaw would be up there in the argument to be considered the beating heart of this Newcastle team.
Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento may also lay claim to that particular accolade too, as might Dan Burn when he’s playing in central defence.
Without Guimaraes, however, Eddie Howe’s side are an entirely different team.
In fact, Newcastle have not won any of the 10 Premier League games they’ve played without Guimaraes starting since he signed for the club, such is his importance to the cause.
The former Lyon star is a Newcastle legend and someone the team just cannot operate without.
