Tino Livramento paid special mention to a Newcastle United player who has frequently been called “underrated” by his teammates.

The return of Livramento and Lewis Hall helped Newcastle United beat Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Still, the full-backs weren’t alone in impressing. Indeed, the likes of Malick Thiaw, Bruno Guimaraes and Harvey Barnes all stood out too.

Who was your Newcastle United MOTM against Manchester City?

It was a fine showing from Eddie Howe’s side, who more than deserved their victory.

Livramento has rightly been hailed but, speaking after the game, he was quick to praise a certain Jacob Murphy.

Tino Livramento says Jacob Murphy is underrated by everyone other than Newcastle United fans

Livramento, who has previously been a transfer target for City, was interviewed by Stadium Astro after the full-time whistle at St James’ Park.

During the discussion, the 23-year-old talked of how underrated Murphy is amongst people outside of the Newcastle supporters.

“I’ve played a lot with Murph, Jacob Murphy, for the whole time that I’ve been here,” he said.

“I think he’s so underrated by many people in this league but the fans that see him week in, week out, they understand how good he is for this team.

“Not only what he does going forward, you see his crosses today, he should have had two or three assists. But his defensive work, when I have him in front of me, I know he’s going to help me out.

“I wasn’t really isolated in 1v1 situations, because he’s there to help me.”

Anthony Gordon also thinks Murphy is underrated and, frankly, they’re both right.

This is a player who has racked up 14 Premier League assists in his last 46 appearances in the competition.

Had it been for some better finishing from his teammates this season, that tally would stand even higher.

The Premier League legends Jacob Murphy could overtake in the assist charts this season

The Premier League have awarded Murphy 29 assists over the course of his career.

That puts him level with the likes of Fernando Torres, Freddie Ljungberg, Paul Ince, Phil Foden, John Barnes, Wilfried Zaha and Bryan Mbeumo.

Harvey Barnes double sinks Manchester City

This season, he could feasibly catch the likes of Michael Owen, Craig Bellamy and Alexis Sanchez (31).

Yaya Toure’s record stands at 32, along with former Newcastle United stars Rob Lee and Laurent Robert.

Roy Keane and Peter Beardsley amassed 33, while the likes of Gary Neville (35), Carlos Tevez (36) and Cristiano Ronaldo (37) are within Murphy’s sights this season.

Murphy has become a better player than many would have predicted and could soon overtake some of the biggest legends in the Premier League in the assists charts.
