Newcastle United could make an offer for Toulouse defender Dayann Methalie during the January transfer window.
While it’s hard to imagine Newcastle United going out and breaking the bank in January following a significant summer outlay, key positions could be looked at.
Indeed, Newcastle are open to signing a new full-back to improve their squad for the second half of what is a relentless campaign.

Eddie Howe’s side tend to struggle when Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento do not play and both have suffered from injuries this season.
Thankfully for Howe, Lewis Miley has stepped up to replace Livramento, but there isn’t a natural back-up for Hall other than Livramento himself.
That could be where Methalie comes in.
Newcastle United could bid for Dayann Methalie if they are given encouragement
That’s because, according to Luke Edwards in The Daily Telegraph, Newcastle could make an offer for the 19-year-old defender.
Methalie is a highly rated defender, capable of playing as a centre-back, a left-back and a wing-back.
That kind of versatility could be crucial to a Newcastle team who are having to battle across a number of fronts this season.
Edwards suggests that Methalie has been scouted extensively and is a name that features prominently in their internal recruitment meetings.
A bid could be made in the coming weeks, although it will only come if they are given encouragement by the French club.
The last player Newcastle United signed from Toulouse was a huge success
Newcastle did shop in the French market an awful lot back in the early 2010s.
One of their most successful additions actually came from Toulouse in the form of Moussa Sissoko.
Though Sissoko is hardly a popular figure on Tyneside these days, there’s little doubt the deal to sign him proved to be a success – at least on the financial side of things.
Which player do you regret selling more – Elliot Anderson or Yankuba Minteh?
Thanks, PSR 😡
Indeed, Sissoko signed for a reported £1.5million in January 2013. The midfielder made 133 appearances for the club before leaving for Tottenham in 2016 for a fee thought to be worth around £30million.
Newcastle do plan on signing younger players, ones who can be sold at greater profits if necessary.
On paper at least, the teenage Methalie looks to fit that profile.
