Newcastle United responded to their increasing number of doubters with a fine win on the road at Everton.
Their first ever trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium saw Newcastle United beat Everton 4-1 in the Premier League.
It was their first win on the road in the division since April and surely their most convincing display of the season yet.
As supporters soak up the victory, Geordie Boot Boys looked at the winners and losers from the game.
Who was your MOTM against Everton?! So many to choose from, let us know your thoughts…
Winners
Lewis Miley
Lewis Miley was brilliant for the Magpies on Merseyside. His excellent corner was headed in by Malick Thiaw for the fastest goal of the season to date and the teenager scored himself not too long after.
Eddie Howe thinks Miley can play at right-back but that kind of performance would surely suggest midfield is where his future lies.
Aaron Ramsdale
Nick Pope missed the game through injury, allowing Aaron Ramsdale to start his first Premier League game of the season.
Toon fans have been itching to see Ramsdale in action and while it is true that he didn’t have much to do up against the Toffees, he certainly didn’t do anything to warrant being dropped going forward.
Nick Woltemade
Not many people would question Nick Woltemade’s start to the season but in recent away games, he’s looked increasingly isolated.
A first assist for Anthony Elanga! And how about that finish from Nick Woltemade?
That wasn’t the case here. His brilliant hold up play only a few seconds in teed up Anthony Elanga to force a save from Jordan Pickford, which led to the first goal.
Woltemade also scored a brilliant goal in which he chipped the Everton goalkeeper with a fine bit of skill.
Anthony Elanga
Elanga’s start to life at Newcastle has been disappointing, but this was his best display yet.
The Sweden star played a role in the first goal and teed up Woltemade for his brilliant finish with his industry.
He perhaps doesn’t fully convince yet but that was a huge step in the right direction.
Losers
Jordan Pickford
Pickford is something of a pantomime villain amongst Newcastle fans, due to his connection with local rivals Sunderland.
The England goalkeeper has enjoyed a lot of success against Eddie Howe’s side of late and hadn’t actually conceded against them in four hours of action before Saturday’s game.
However, he won’t want to see his howler for Miley’s goal back…
Anthony Gordon
Anthony Gordon came off the bench briefly against his former club, having watched Harvey Barnes put in another good performance on the left wing.
Though Howe will likely rotate over the next few games given the schedule, it now feels as if Gordon just doesn’t have a place in Newcastle’s strongest lineup.
Given there’s a World Cup on the horizon, that could be a very bad thing for his England chances.
