Newcastle United youngster Antonio Cordero has joined Cadiz on loan for the rest of the season after enduring a torrid time of things at KVC Westerlo.
Over four months in Belgian football yielded only eight games, none of which came from the start.
While Cordero arrived on a free transfer at Newcastle United from Malaga to much excitement amid links with Barcelona, he’s wasted a few months of his career.
Our first CONFIRMED deal of 2026! How badly does our loan system need a revamp, by the way?! 😡
The teenage winger, who scored six goals while registering seven assists in 40 games for Malaga last season, did not register a single goal contribution at Westerlo.
Newcastle expected Cordero to play more regularly at Westerlo and, thankfully, action has now been taken.
Cordero has joined Cadiz on loan for the remainder of the campaign and has sent his first message to the club’s fans.

Antonio Cordero says he’s excited to join Cadiz
Following Newcastle United’s official statement confirming the deal, the Spanish second tier club posted a video of Cordero at their training ground.
They put his opening message to the club’s supporters on Instagram and he said: “Cadiz fans, I’m now here, I can’t wait to feel your support in the stadium and represent this club. Come on, The Yellows”
Interestingly, while Cordero came through the ranks with Malaga, he is from Jerez de la Frontera – the largest city in the Cadiz province.
Which player do you regret selling more – Elliot Anderson or Yankuba Minteh?
Thanks, PSR 😡
Antonio Cordero set for quick-fire debut at Cadiz after loan nightmare
The Spanish club won’t be wasting any time when it comes to the winger, it seems.
Indeed, on Cadiz’s official website, they confirmed that Cordero will begin training with them on New Year’s Day.
Their statement read: “The winger is already in the city of Cadiz and will be available to [manager] Gaizka Garitano tomorrow [Thursday, 1 January, 2026].”
Enough time has been wasted in Cordero’s season and he could be in line to make his debut for Cadiz when they travel to Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday night.
Cadiz sit sixth in the Spanish second tier after 19 games but are only four points off Las Palmas in second.
Newcastle beat Barcelona and Real Madrid to the signing of Cordero, and they will hope to see him kick on for the rest of the season.
