William Osula’s strange season at Newcastle United has been complicated even further following a recent transfer claim.
Back in September, Osula almost joined Eintracht Frankfurt from Newcastle United on deadline day.
However, PIF decided to keep Osula at Newcastle as cover, which looked an inspired decision at one point.
The 22-year-old impressed in Newcastle United‘s win over Fulham in October, having previously scored a brace against Bradford in the Carabao Cup.
Will Osula, keep or sell in January?
Having made such an impressive impact, Eddie Howe praised Osula for his improvement.
Still, when Yoane Wissa returns from injury, Osula will almost certainly become third choice in the pecking order behind the DR Congo international and Nick Woltemade.
It’s been a bizarre few months in his career, going from the brink of leaving to briefly looking like a crucial player, and the January transfer window could make things all the more dramatic.
William Osula reaches verbal agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt
That’s because, according to German football expert Florian Plettenberg on social media platform X, Osula has agreed terms over a move to Frankfurt.
Osula is said to want the move to Germany and the Bundesliga club are considering making a financial offer.
That could include a loan fee of around £2.64million, ahead of a permanent move next summer for around £17.5million.
The clubs are said to be in contact and the final decision, of course, rests with Newcastle.
Pretend you’re Eddie Howe. Which position are you begging PIF to strengthen in January?
Suddenly selling William Osula makes zero sense for Newcastle United
As recently as October, The Daily Mail claimed that Newcastle have decided to keep Osula because they don’t think they can replace him.
A player of his potential would likely cost a pretty penny during a window which is notoriously difficult from which to extract value.
Unless the club have something up their sleeve, it’s hard to see what could have changed over the last few weeks.

Recovering Wissa from injury only to sell Osula without a replacement would still leave Newcastle with only two strikers from January onwards.
Osula is perhaps within his rights to want to leave in pursuit of first-team football but Newcastle have to be ruthless here.
If they cannot find a suitable replacement, Osula simply has to stay.
