Newcastle United are looking to register back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time this season when they head to Everton on Saturday evening.
Last weekend’s win over Man City is still fresh in the memory for Newcastle, but so too is that defeat to Marseille in midweek in the Champions League.

Everton’s unusual record against Newcastle will give Eddie Howe hope that his side can get the result they need away from home and leapfrog the Toffees in the Premier League table.
However, club legend Alan Shearer reckons this will be a tough game, and he thinks it’s crucial that Howe finally puts right something that has been going wrong for the Magpies all season.

Alan Shearer’s score prediction for Everton vs Newcastle United
In his regular column for the Metro, Shearer attempted to predict the outcome of Everton vs Newcastle and it seems he believes the same old issue of travel sickness will plague his beloved club once again this weekend, though they won’t lose this one.
He said: “This is a tough one to call, because Everton got a great result with ten men at Old Trafford for a long part of the game.
“Away from home Newcastle have really disappointed. I think that’s the conundrum they’ve added. Their home form is excellent. But I’ve said before about when you’re being rolled in front of your own fans at home, it’s difficult, you can’t give anything but 100%. When you drop a fraction in football, we know the differences that can make.
“Obviously they have made too many errors away from home, that’s one of the reasons why they haven’t had the results and have been really poor. That has to change if they’re going to start and climb the table. We’ve seen what they’re capable of last week against Manchester City.
“Now, they need to put that in again, just because it’s against Everton and it’s away from home shouldn’t make any difference. So, I’d be looking for them to replicate the energy that they showed, and everything else about their performance against Man City, and we need to see that away from home as well.”
So, what does Shearer think will happen tonight? “This one will be really tight I think, and I’m going to go for a draw,” he concluded.

Newcastle’s away form was far better last season
Newcastle are still yet to win away from St. James’ Park in the league this season, picking up three draws and three defeats. Only two other teams in the top tier are in the same boat, with bottom of the table Wolves and struggling Fulham also without a win on their travels.
Brentford, Burnley, and Leeds United all have three points away from home as well, but they’ve actually managed to win a game on the road. Arguably, that puts them in a better position than the Magpies.
So, what has happened to Newcastle United and why do they hate playing away from home so much now?
Match-going Newcastle United fans, how different will your routine be ahead of a first trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium?
Obviously, not many teams can match their standards at home and away, but Newcastle were not bad when visiting other grounds last season.
They were ranked 10th in the Premier League when it comes to away results in 2024/25; although, they had the same number of points as the four teams above them, too.
| Rank | Club | P | W | D | L | GD | PTS |
| 1 | Liverpool | 19 | 11 | 5 | 3 | +19 | 38 |
| 2 | Arsenal | 19 | 9 | 8 | 2 | +17 | 35 |
| 3 | Nottingham Forest | 19 | 10 | 3 | 6 | +2 | 33 |
| 4 | Manchester City | 19 | 8 | 5 | 6 | +8 | 29 |
| 5 | Brighton & Hove Albion | 19 | 8 | 5 | 6 | +3 | 29 |
| 6 | AFC Bournemouth | 19 | 7 | 7 | 5 | +5 | 28 |
| 7 | Chelsea | 19 | 8 | 4 | 7 | +4 | 28 |

| 9 | Crystal Palace FC | 19 | 7 | 7 | 5 | +2 | 28 |

Howe managed to win eight of the 19 games outside of Tyneside. They also registered four draws, meaning they picked up 28 points on the road; a figure which looks almost impossible to match in 2025/26.
Could it be that Newcastle United are simply stretched due to competing in the Champions League as well this season? Travelling around the continent in midweek before playing a Premier League game a few days later is never easy. And yet, clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal, and Man City managed it last year.
It certainly feels like some kind of mentality issue. Newcastle have not shown the same kind of fight and spirit this season that we have grown accustomed to, and Howe needs to get that belief back in his players, and fast.
