Newcastle United’s desire to keep Alexander Isak is being tested by Liverpool.
As Newcastle United try to sign Hugo Ekitike and pair him with Alexander Isak, Liverpool have other plans.
The Premier League champions want to sign the 25-year-old, but it was previously reported that Liverpool had not even contacted Newcastle about Isak.
However, that has now changed. Geordie Boot Boys understand that Liverpool have approached Newcastle United about signing Isak this summer.
An offer has not been submitted, while the Telegraph’s Luke Edwards has stated that Newcastle think Liverpool are trying to unsettle Isak.

What Newcastle United want as Liverpool make Alexander Isak approach
For Newcastle United, their goal is still to keep the Sweden international at St James’ Park and give him a new contract. That is according to transfer expert Graeme Bailey, who has exclusively spoken to Geordie Boot Boys about Liverpool’s approach.
“It has always been the case that all summer I have said that we need to watch the Isak situation,” he said.
“From the information I was getting from people with knowledge of the situation, it was never as simple as saying he is ‘not for sale’ and Newcastle know that.
“They want him to sign a new deal but it remains to be seen if they can agree terms.
“Isak is Liverpool’s dream target, he has been all summer.”
Newcastle United can have the last laugh with Alexander Isak as Liverpool crank up the pressure
You cannot blame Liverpool for trying to sign Isak. They want a striker, and a club of their size is always going to target the best.
But the ball is in Newcastle United’s court. They hold all of the cards, with Isak having a contract on Tyneside until 2028.
Whether Liverpool genuinely think they can get Isak or are merely trying to rock the boat, a deal will only be possible if they propose a package worth at least £150million. That would make him Liverpool’s most expensive signing ever, eclipsing the Florian Wirtz deal.
Unless that kind of money is put on the table, Isak is going nowhere. Newcastle United do not need to sell.
Now the Magpies must hold their nerve. They can still have the last laugh, starting with a deal for Ekitike. That would remove a striker option for Liverpool, as they target a new number nine.
After that, Newcastle’s priority must be extending Isak’s contract. That would be the biggest statement they can make.
