The January transfer window has now officially opened, and Newcastle United fans will no doubt be desperate to make a signing.

For the first time in three years, Newcastle United have money to spend in the January transfer window.

That doesn’t necessarily mean owners PIF will be breaking the bank this month but at least having funds available will be a big boost to Eddie Howe

One of the club’s major targets this season is AZ Alkmaar midfielder Kees Smit

Geordie Boot Boys understands that Newcastle want to sign Smit, but they do face competition from several top clubs.

With that in mind, here’s a look at the latest Newcastle United transfer news and rumours.

Kees Smit impressed by Newcastle United vision

According to The Daily Telegraph, Smit would be open to joining Newcastle.

Actually convincing AZ to sell halfway through a season may be difficult but the player himself is said to have been impressed by the club’s vision for him.

How would you actually feel if Newcastle United DIDN’T sign a player in January?!

It would cause a lot of talk on social media…

It remains to be seen if Newcastle do actually make an offer, however, with the Dutch side thought to be desperate to keep him until at least the end of the campaign.

Sandro Tonali to Juventus update

Sandro Tonali’s name is always likely to feature when a transfer window opens. Despite being under contract at Newcastle until 2030, Juventus are consistently linked with Tonali

Recently, Italian football expert Gianluca Di Marzio provided an update.

He suggested that Juve could look to sign West Ham’s Guido Rodriguez on loan in January before making a big play to sign Tonali next summer.

Ross Wilson took action in sending Antonio Cordero to Cadiz

The final day of a remarkable 2025 for Newcastle United brought their first confirmed deal of the 2026 January transfer window.

The club confirmed that Antonio Cordero’s nightmare spell on loan at KVC Westerlo had come to an end.

Now, Cordero has joined Cadiz on loan for the second half of 2025/26 season

Interestingly, according to Sky Sports, the move came after sporting director Ross Wilson had conducted a review of Newcastle’s loan operations.

It’s an area of the club that fans have long criticised, with several players struggling when farmed out on loan by Newcastle.
