A Newcastle United stalwart is back in the team these days, but a departure during the January transfer window could be on the cards.

It will be fascinating to see who leaves Newcastle United during the 2026 January transfer window.

For most of this season, it feels as if this team have gone stale.

Indeed, not many players have left the club in recent seasons, aside from a few high-profile examples who went against their wishes.

Ahead of January, some of the Newcastle United squad have been tipped to depart.

One of their longest-serving stars in Joe Willock could be among those.

Joe Willock could leave Newcastle United amid genuine Premier League interest

According to The Athletic, Willock is attracting genuine interest from Premier League clubs.

Crystal Palace have been linked with a move for Willock, who has made 157 appearances for Newcastle since joining the club – initially on loan – in February 2021.

Interestingly, the 26-year-old has recently come back into the team. He has made 13 appearances across all competitions, five of which have come from the start.

Willock’s contract at Newcastle expires in the summer of 2027, meaning there is not a lot of time left to sell him for anything approaching maximum value.

Which player do you regret selling more – Elliot Anderson or Yankuba Minteh?

Thanks, PSR 😡

How many players from the Mike Ashley era are still in the Newcastle United squad?

An end of an era could be coming at St James’ Park.

Jamaal Lascelles is also expected to leave Newcastle, while Kieran Trippier has also been linked with an exit.

Times are changing, it seems.

Willock and Lascelles formed part of the Mike Ashley era, while Trippier was the first addition of the new regime.

As it stands, there are only six players left from the Ashley days.

Should Willock and Lascelles depart, the only players left from Ashley’s regime in the current Newcastle squad would be the quartet of Fabian Schar, Joelinton, Jacob Murphy and Emil Krafth.
