A dismal Premier League season ended in predictably poor fashion when Newcastle United were beaten 2-0 at Fulham on Sunday.
Issa Diop and Tom Cairney scored the goals as an already poor campaign ended on yet another sour note for Newcastle United.
Eddie Howe’s side finish the season sitting 12th in the Premier League table and, thankfully, this draining campaign is now over.
Here’s how Geordie Boot Boys rated the players.
Nick Pope – 6
Pope has attracted a lot of criticism this season but he cannot be blamed for Diop’s goal.
Lewis Hall – 6
Hall has endured a bruising week after he was left out of the England squad for the World Cup and while he wasn’t terrible, it was hardly a roaring response of a performance.
Malick Thiaw – 5
Thiaw very much looked like he needed a draining season to end. Was fast asleep for Diop’s goal.
Sven Botman – 5
Like with Thiaw, Botman was really poor for Diop’s goal.
Dan Burn – 6
Dan Burn was not at all happy with his teammates for their defending and for good reason. Still, he wasn’t brilliant himself.
Bruno Guimaraes – 4
An unusually poor performance from Guimaraes, and Newcastle fans will no doubt hope he just had one eye on the World Cup rather than a potential move away from the club.
Sandro Tonali – N/A
Forced to withdraw before kick-off due to injury. Hopefully, Newcastle fans get to see Tonali playing for them again.
Jacob Murphy – 4
Jacob Murphy deserves a lot of respect for a brilliant Newcastle United career but this has looked like a season too far for him. Sunday was another example and it’s hard to see how anyone can be excited about the prospect of him playing next season.
Nick Woltemade – 5
Some nice touches at times but Woltemade failed to really do anything of note.
Jacob Ramsey – 4
Ramsey has been really impressive of late but there wasn’t much to shout about here.
William Osula – 5
Osula barely got a kick as his breakout season ended with a whimper. Not his fault, however.
Subs:
Joe Willock – 4
Comical defending for the goal infuriated supporters online and Willock also squandered Newcastle’s best chance in the first half.
