Newcastle United fans finally got the chance to see Yoane Wissa in action on Saturday.
There was a huge roar inside St James’ Park when he was named as a substitute against Burnley, while the decibels increased even further when he was brought on by Eddie Howe.
He was only on the pitch for just over 15 minutes, but Newcastle United fans enjoyed Yoane Wissa’s cameo.
- Who is Yoane Wissa? Newcastle United’s £55m Alexander Isak replacement
Who was your MOTM vs Burnley?!
Hard to pick one!
The 29-year-old showed some nice touches, but was unable to mark his debut with a goal. That is nothing to worry about, as the most important thing was seeing him in a black and white shirt for the first time.
There is a lot more to come from Yoane Wissa, and Newcastle United perhaps gave fans a hint of what they should be chanting about their new number nine with their decision at full-time.
‘Wissa’s on fire’ could be Yoane Wissa’s Newcastle United chant
Immediately after Newcastle United’s 2-1 win over Burnley, the PA system inside St James’ Park played 1997 dance hit Freed From Desire by Gala.
The song has been used as a football chant since 2016, with Wigan Athletic fans changing the chorus to ‘Will Grigg’s on fire’. It was then adopted by various other clubs, including Newcastle United.
Toon fans used to sing ‘Mitro’s on fire’ in honour of Aleksandar Mitrovic, and now they could do the same for Wissa.
The club’s decision to play that song after the £55million man’s debut perhaps suggests they want supporters to sing ‘Wissa’s on fire, your defence is terrified’.
There did appear to be a Wissa chant during Newcastle’s win over Burnley, with Toon fans in the Strawberry Corner singing his name to the tune of the Animals Went In Two By Two. However, the exact lyrics of the song were unclear.

Yoane Wissa was one pass away from the perfect Newcastle United debut
Wissa did not come close to scoring his first Newcastle United goal on Saturday.
However, he might have done had Joelinton got his pass right in the 86th minute. The Brazilian got himself into space down the left, which triggered Wissa to make a great run towards the box.
Joelinton attempted to find his new teammate, but his pass was intercepted by a Burnley player.
Had Joelinton been able to pick Wissa out, he would have had a golden opportunity to score his first goal for the club.
Next up for the Magpies is Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League, with Wissa getting another chance to score his first Toon goal on Wednesday night.
