On a day that saw Newcastle United fans give a Geordie welcome to new signing Yoane Wissa, they also welcomed back a former Toon player.
It was a tough afternoon inside St James’ Park, with Newcastle United beating Burnley 2-1. While the Magpies were far from the best, it was a special day for Yoane Wissa.
Newcastle United fans liked what they saw from Wissa on his debut, while it was also a special day for Martin Dubravka.
The Slovakian goalkeeper was back on Tyneside after his summer departure, and he received an incredibly warm welcome back from the Toon Army.

Newcastle United fans serenade Martin Dubravka on his return to St James’ Park
In the 83rd and 84th minute, Newcastle United fans showed their former number one some love.
Fans in the Strawberry Corner chanted Martin Dubravka’s name to the tune of Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes, just like they used to do when he was part of the Newcastle United squad.
Dubravka acknowledged the classy moment by applauding the supporters, turning to the Gallowgate as his Burnley teammates launched an attack.
Then the chant grew louder, with the entire St James’ Park crowd singing the 36-year-old’s name.
It was a great moment for Dubravka, who never got a proper chance to say goodbye to the Newcastle United fans before his summer transfer to Burnley.

It has resulted in rumours regarding a new goalkeeper arriving at St James’ Park, with Newcastle interested in James Trafford again. However, that deal could be difficult financially.
