Newcastle United could repeat their Elliot Anderson trick by selling Lewis Miley, but that is not to say that they will.
With the Magpies in a desperate financial situation in the summer of 2024, they turned to one of their own. Newcastle United sold Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest for £35million, with his departure ensuring the club complied with PSR.
Selling an academy product helped ensure they avoided a points deduction, but it is a decision they have rued ever since. Anderson has been exceptional for Forest, and is now an England international worth more than £100million.
Imagine a world where Newcastle United are FORCED to sell one player in January. Who should it be? Let us know!
Should Newcastle go in search of a similar PSR boost, they could sell Lewis Miley. The 19-year-old is also a product of the Newcastle United academy, meaning any fee the club receive would go down as pure profit.
However, that is not something that interests Eddie Howe’s side.
Newcastle United do not plan to sell Lewis Miley
While Miley has struggled for minutes this season, Newcastle United are not interested in letting the teenager depart.
That is according to the Athletic, who have been told by club sources that Miley is not for sale under any circumstances.
They add that the Magpies are actually looking to extend Miley’s contract, with talks over an extension expected in the near future. His current deal runs until 2029.
The Athletic state that he is seen as a ‘key part’ of Newcastle’s plans, which follows on from their decision to keep him at St James’ Park this season despite loan interest.
Geordie Boot Boys understand that Miley wanted to go out on loan, but Newcastle opted to make him stay.
Lewis Miley braced for new role at Newcastle United
Miley has made 13 appearances for Newcastle this season, with his most recent outing coming at right-back during the Champions League defeat to Marseille.

Newcastle fans were surprised to see Miley play there, but it is a role he might have to get used to.
Eddie Howe is suddenly very short of options in that position. Kieran Trippier is injured, as is Emil Krafth. The former has a hamstring problem, while the latter is suffering from a knee issue.
It might not suit Miley, but he may have to fill in at right-back more regularly in the coming weeks, as Howe will be reluctant to play Tino Livramento in every minute of every game given his own injury issues.
