The Marc Guehi saga will soon come to an end one way or another for Newcastle United.

Guehi was a major Newcastle United transfer target back in the summer of 2024 but proved out of reach despite a series of huge offers.

Newcastle United continue to monitor Guehi’s situation and would have winced at the idea he could have joined Liverpool earlier this year.

Indeed, the Reds had already signed Hugo Ekitike from under Newcastle’s noses and were in the process of landing Alexander Isak, so watching Guehi head to Anfield would have been especially painful.

Which player do you regret selling more – Elliot Anderson or Yankuba Minteh?

Thanks, PSR 😡

While the Magpies brought in Malick Thiaw to huge success during the summer, they could certainly do with a new central defender at some point.

Sven Botman continues to be beset by injuries, while Dan Burn and Fabian Schar are both in their mid-30s and do not represent long-term options.

Now, there has been a fresh update on Guehi’s future at Crystal Palace.

Marc Guehi to stay at Crystal Palace during the January transfer window

According to BBC Sport, the race will be on to sign Guehi as a free agent next summer.

The England international is set to stay at Selhurst Park during the January transfer window and leave upon the expiration of his contract following the end of the season.

Inter Milan, both Madrid clubs, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are all thought to be interested and could feasibly agree a pre-contract with him from the start of 2026 onwards.

Closer to home, Liverpool and Manchester City are said to be keen.

Newcastle continue to be linked with Guehi but seemingly face an almighty battle to sign him.

Marc Guehi’s agents already have next club in mind

Geordie Boot Boys have been told that Guehi’s representatives expect him to move to Spain next summer.

The exact club, at this stage, remains unclear amid interest from all of the big three.

Both Real Madrid and Barcelona, however, have signed high-profile free agents in recent seasons.

Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba, Kylian Mbappe and Trent Alexander-Arnold have all moved to the Spanish capital after seeing their deals expire at their previous clubs.

Barca, meanwhile, have landed the likes of Ilkay Gundogan and Andreas Christensen in recent seasons.

Newcastle would like to sign a new defender but, sadly, Guehi looks out of reach once again.
