Eddie Howe will not be asking PIF for any assurances over his future as Newcastle United manager and it says a lot about his true standing at the club.
For the first time in what feels like an age, Howe is starting to come under question at Newcastle United.
Indeed, his team are floundering in the Premier League this season. They sit only two points above the relegation zone before Saturday’s clash with Manchester City.
Howe is undoubtedly a Newcastle United legend but it would only be natural to feel some kind of pressure in the role given recent results.
Will Eddie Howe still be Newcastle United manager at the start of the 2026/27 season?
Still, Howe has the complete backing of PIF at Newcastle and suggestions he could be replaced any time soon feel premature.
Such is the strength of his position in the role, Howe hasn’t been speaking to the Newcastle United owners about his future and it says a lot about his standing on Tyneside.

Eddie Howe doesn’t feel the need to seek assurances from PIF
The Newcastle United manager was speaking ahead of Saturday’s Premier League with Manchester City.
Asked whether he’s sought any assurances from above, Howe revealed he hadn’t.
He does not believe that’s the right call to make, with Howe instead focused on improving himself rather than looking to those above him.
“I haven’t really sought that assurance,” he said.
“I don’t feel that’s right from my perspective. It’s about working for me.
“It’s about showing that we have the experience and the expertise to guide us forward, and I need to show that.
Newcastle United’s Premier League finishes under Eddie Howe. Will he claim his highest yet this season?
“Regardless of results you have something to prove in every game.
“You have, most importantly, yourself to consistently answer any questions you have about yourself and I want the players to respond this weekend. Everyone is hurt from those two away games we had in the Premier League. I’m keen to get the games going again.”
Why Eddie Howe’s stance on PIF speaks volumes at Newcastle United
Howe played a role in bringing Ross Wilson to Newcastle, so will hope to finally have a sporting director in place he can work alongside for many years to come.
New Newcastle CEO David Hopkinson is also a big fan of Howe and for good reason.
It’s important to remember that Howe is arguably Newcastle’s greatest-ever manager and now has a structure in place behind him.
He’s embedded within every aspect of the club and external noise is unlikely to impact his position unless things get much worse.
To say the club has been built in his image would be too far but he’s clearly more than just a head coach.
Howe is the beating heart of the PIF project at Newcastle. Without him, there is no guarantee it would ever have worked.
It seems incredibly unlikely that PIF will be rushing into any kind of decision over his future barring a complete disaster.
The fact it’s not even a talking point behind the scenes tells Newcastle fans all they need to know about Howe’s standing at the club.
