A promising update on Alexander Isak's contract #NUFC

Newcastle United are set to sit down and discuss a new contract for star striker Alexander Isak after reports that Liverpool are seriously interested in him.

The 25-year-old is coming off the back of two 20-goal seasons in the Premier League and is widely regarded as one of the best strikers in world football.

Alexander Isak was sensational for Newcastle United in the 2024/25 campaign, scoring 23 goals in the Premier League and finding the back of the net in the cup competitions, including the Carabao Cup final.

It comes as no surprise that the Swede has interest from some of the top clubs in Europe after his brilliant form, with recent reports stating that Liverpool are very interested in signing Isak this summer.

Despite that, Newcastle are not interested in selling Isak at all and are preparing to build a team around him this summer. Reports earlier this year stated that Newcastle are ready to hold contract talks with Isak to deter interest and extend his current deal past its current 2028 expiry.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe will be leading Isak’s contract discussions, and Geordie Boot Boys can now reveal what the Magpies are willing to do to keep him at the club for the long-term.

Newcastle United are willing to break their wage structure to keep Alexander Isak

While Newcastle are eager to keep Isak at the club, the Swede has his own demands that they must adhere to. Isak wants to become Newcastle’s highest earner if he signs a new deal. He would earn more than £160,000-a-week if he were to do so.

There has also been speculation that Isak could take the number nine shirt from Callum Wilson, who looks set to leave the club at the end of the month.

TBR Football’s chief transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey spoke to Geordie Boot Boys about Newcastle’s contract talks with Isak.

“There is not much coming out from Alexander Isak’s camp about his contract, but that is a priority for both the player and Newcastle United,” he said.

“Newcastle are fully prepared to break their wage structure and make him the highest-paid member of their squad, but will that be enough? That is the question Newcastle fans are asking, and we will soon find out.

“We know Liverpool are hugely interested in him, Arsenal too – if the talks don’t reach a successful conclusion, then things will get interesting – but Newcastle remain confident Isak will sign.”

Newcastle United set for more contract talks after Alexander Isak decision

After the season they had, Newcastle are keen to keep hold of their top stars despite interest from clubs in the Premier League and Europe.

Anthony Gordon has interest from Liverpool, while Sandro Tonali is a Juventus target, but Howe is adamant that they will not leave.

Once Newcastle are finished with Isak’s new deal, Geordie Boot Boys were told that Bruno Guimaraes is set to be given an improved contract after captaining the side to their first major trophy since 1969.

Guimaraes has gone on record to share how much he enjoys life at Newcastle, so discussions should be fairly easy. However, Guimaraes has urged Newcastle to make signings this summer, so his decision could be dependent on who they bring in for their return to the Champions League.

A big summer is ahead for Newcastle, with Howe thinking about his current squad as well as how he can strengthen it.
