Yoane Wissa only had Newcastle United on his mind this summer, largely because of two former players.

Wissa was linked with several clubs prior to leaving Brentford but eventually found his way to Newcastle United with only a few seconds to spare on deadline day.

After a lengthy period on the sidelines, Wissa has already scored his first goal for Newcastle.

That came against Fulham in the Carabao Cup earlier this month and the hope is that many more follow.

Wissa was desperate to join Newcastle and the striker has now revealed why.

Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba caused Yoane Wissa to fall in love with Newcastle United

The DR Congo international has been speaking to Premier League reporter Andy Sixsmith.

He once again reiterated his love for the club, claiming it was only ever Newcastle for him despite links with the likes of Tottenham.

Wissa also revealed that watching Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba play for Newcastle in the early 2010s caused him to fall in love with the club.

The two former Senegal forwards were brilliant together on Tyneside and played in the campaign that saw Newcastle finish fifth under Alan Pardew.

Knowing what you know now, would you have sold Alexander Isak in 2024 instead of Elliot Anderson? 🤔

In this scenario, we still win the Carabao Cup by the way 😂

One didn’t want to leave. The other did his best to.

Along with Hatem Ben Arfa, they formed a truly exciting front three for a brief period of time.

Their brilliance was a rare bright spark during the Mike Ashley era and certainly left quite the impression on Wissa.

“Papiss Cisse text me to wish me all the best because he knows how proud I am to be here,” said Wissa.

“He and Demba Ba are why I fell in love with Newcastle. I only wanted to come here. It was only ever Newcastle.”

The only goal Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse ever combined for at Newcastle United

Ba and Cisse certainly have an argument to be considered among Newcastle’s greatest-ever strikers, at least in the modern era.

Still, for Newcastle, they only ever actually linked up together for one goal, which came in a defeat away at Stoke City in 2012.

Ba would join Chelsea not much later, leaving his Newcastle record at 29 goals in 58 games.

Cisse, meanwhile, scored 44 goals in 131 appearances for the club. He left the club in 2016 and has recently been spotted playing non-league football for Wythenshawe.
