Newcastle United’s h2h record against Marseille
The two teams have only ever met twice before in competitive games. They have drawn once, while Newcastle lost the other.
Those games came way back in 2004 in the UEFA Cup semi-finals.
Newcastle held the French side to a 0-0 draw at St James’ Park but lost the second leg out in France as Didier Drogba bagged a brace.
As such, they progressed into the final but lost to Valencia, who were then coached by Rafa Benitez.
Benitez, of course, would join Newcastle 12 years later.
Newcastle haven’t won an away game all season and are up against it here.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side are just two points off the top in Ligue 1 and have already scored 33 goals in the 13 league games.
It will be a major test of Howe’s side, who also have one eye on Saturday’s trip to Everton.
