It is no secret that Bruno Guimaraes is one of Newcastle United’s most important players.

Ever since his arrival from Lyon, Bruno Guimaraes has established himself as one of the Premier League’s best midfielders and a key cog in the Newcastle United machine.

Eddie Howe knows he can always rely on his captain, but there is perhaps a fear that he has to rely on him too much.

That certainly feels like the case after Newcastle United’s draw with Tottenham Hotspur, as a worrying statistic has emerged coming out of the game.

Newcastle United have failed to win 10 times without Bruno Guimaraes

For the second time in the Premier League this season, Howe opted to leave Bruno out of his starting XI. The first was the 0-0 draw with Bournemouth back in September.

Yet again the Magpies failed to win without the Brazilian in their starting XI, which has been a consistent theme since he joined the club in January 2022.

Bruno’s first Premier League start came against Southampton on the 10th March 2022. Since that game, Howe has not named Bruno in his Premier League starting XI on 10 occasions. That has either been because of injury, suspension or for tactical reasons.

Since his first start in March 2022, Bruno Guimaraes has been left out of Newcastle United’s Premier League starting XI on just 10 occasions.

The Magpies have not won a single one of those games!

Regardless, Newcastle United have failed to win any of those 10 games.

Despite the incredible superstars that Newcastle possess like Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, there remains a huge over-reliance on Bruno.

At that point, Eddie Howe was yet to thrust his biggest January signing into the spotlight. His side were getting the job done without him, as Newcastle United beat the Seagulls 2-1 at St James’ Park.

With Bruno on the bench, the Magpies had a midfield three of Jonjo Shelvey, Joelinton and Joe Willock.

The Brazil international did feature on that day, coming on as a substitute in the 79th minute.
