Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier has reflected on almost four years at St James’ Park.

Newcastle United are now facing some difficulties under Eddie Howe.

Results this season have been disappointing, with Newcastle losing at Brentford before the international break.

A period of transition was to be expected after Alexander Isak’s move to Liverpool, but questions are being asked of Howe as he looks to sustain Newcastle’s progress in recent seasons.

It’s important to remember just how far Newcastle have come under Howe, though, having made enormous progress in his four years in charge.

Kieran Trippier on Newcastle United’s progress under Eddie Howe

Howe was appointed just over four years ago, as PIF brought him in to replace Steve Bruce.

The first target was clear: keep Newcastle in the Premier League.

Howe did that comfortably, and then guided Newcastle into the Champions League just a year later.

Newcastle then won the Carabao Cup last season and secured another season of Champions League action under Howe.

The last four years have been a huge success for Newcastle, which makes this spluttering start to the season so frustrating.

Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier has now reflected on the club’s progress during his time at the club.

Trippier was Newcastle’s first statement signing after the PIF takeover, and he feels the journey has been ‘crazy’.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Trippier admitted that he has been surprised by how quickly Newcastle have progressed.

Trippier pointed to the strength of the Newcastle squad and the brilliance of Howe, but he still can’t believe the speed of the progress.

“It’s been crazy, to be honest, because, when I first arrived, it was a difficult moment,” said Trippier.

“We got beat by Cambridge, then we win a cup, we’re in the Champions League, and the transition has just been very, very fast. I didn’t expect it to go so quick.

“You see the personnel we’ve got in our dressing room now, the way the manager has developed on and off the pitch… I think I’d say very fast, if I’m going to be honest with you,” he added.

Kieran Trippier’s future up in the air at Newcastle United

Trippier is in line to feature against Manchester City this weekend as he continues to play an important role at 35.

The right-back is a strong leader in the Newcastle dressing room, but he is heading towards 2026 with an uncertain future.

Trippier is out of contract at the end of the season and could leave Newcastle on a free transfer.

The Magpies may extend Trippier’s deal, but he has struggled defensively at times this season.

Howe has been accused of being too loyal to certain players, and he will soon face a tough decision on Trippier.

Trippier would surely love to play a role in Newcastle’s journey after four years at St James’ Park, but his advancing years mean a new deal is no sure thing.
