Newcastle United face a season-defining trip to bitter rivals Sunderland in the Premier League on Sunday.

This particular Wear-Tyne derby is the first meeting between Sunderland and Newcastle United in the Premier League since March 2016.

It is an absolutely huge game for Eddie Howe. Newcastle are generally so poor away from home but the idea of losing at the Stadium of Light is hardly worth thinking about.

Sunderland vs Newcastle United prediction

It’s very hard to back Newcastle away from home. However, they largely have a good record in the big games under Howe, and will be expected to show up here.

Sunderland do have a tendency to score late goals, while Newcastle are liable to concede them.

That’s a major worry but Newcastle should feel confident about taking at least something from Wearside.
