Newcastle United have again been linked with a move for Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey.
Unlike last summer, Newcastle United could be in a strong position when it comes to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), which is where Ramsey could come in.
Indeed, Eddie Howe has confirmed Newcastle will look to use PSR to their advantage this summer, aiming to swoop on teams who were in the same position they were in last year. The Magpies had to sell Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh against their wishes, in order to meet their PSR obligations.
Recent reports from The Daily Mail have claimed Villa need to make a significant sale before June 30 due to PSR. Newcastle have been linked with a move for Ramsey before and fresh insight has now emerged.

According to iNews, Newcastle hold a long-standing interest in the 23-year-old.
The Athletic, meanwhile, offer an update into the current thinking at Villa Park.
They claim Tottenham are also interested in the Villa academy graduate but manager Unai Emery remains a “keen advocate” of the player, thinking he can still contribute when fully fit despite the intense competition for places.
Ramsey has made 24 starts across all competitions this season, scoring four goals while registering seven assists.

Such have been the injury problems at Newcastle over the last few seasons, it’s always worth looking at a player’s fitness record when they’re linked with a move.
While it’s true that the injury problems haven’t been as bad this season compared to last, Newcastle will be playing European football next time out. The increased schedule will place a greater strain on Howe’s squad.

Ramsey’s injury record of late has not been great. Per Transfermarkt data, he’s missed 50 games across all competitions with various ailments since the 2022/23 season.
