Former Newcastle United transfer target Bryan Mbeumo was delighted to see Yoane Wissa make his debut for the club.

Indeed, Wissa’s debut for Newcastle United came as Eddie Howe’s side beat Burnley in the Premier League at St James’ Park on Saturday.

While it wasn’t pretty, Newcastle beat Burnley 2-1 thanks to goals from Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon.

Did Bruno Guimaraes mean to score from a corner?! Or are you blaming Martin Dubravka 😂

Zian Flemming pulled one back for the Clarets after a late Jacob Ramsey handball to make things uncomfortable, but the hosts at least got over the line.

Seeing Wissa in action for the first time, a whole 96 days after he signed from Brentford, was brilliant.

Mbeumo certainly seemed to enjoy it, too.

Other than the brilliant goal Guimaraes scored, it perhaps wasn’t a game that will last long in the memory.

The brilliant effort Guimaraes curled in directly from a corner – becoming the first Newcastle player to do that in Premier League history – was the standout moment.

Wissa’s long-awaited debut was the other major talking point from the game and while he only played for 16 minutes, it must have come as sweet relief to the former Brentford striker.

Who was your MOTM vs Burnley?!

Hard to pick one!

After the game, he posted a collage of images on Instagram captioned: “Finally home!
Thank you for your support and love. Good win.”

Plenty of Toon players reacted, along with Mbeumo. The Manchester United star was Wissa’s strike partner at Brentford.

Newcastle tried to sign Mbeumo before he joined Manchester United and the Cameroon international was pleased to see his ex-teammate finally return to the field.

Mbeumo responded to Wissa’s social media statement with: “Here we go.”

Yoane Wissa almost had an assist with his first Newcastle United touch

Wissa looked sharp against the Clarets, although it is obviously too early to draw any definitive conclusions.

At the time of his arrival, Newcastle were dominating the game, too. It was a nice way to get back on the pitch, and he almost had an instant assist.

Howe’s side were on the attack and Wissa played in Jacob Ramsey in the box in his first involvement, only for the former Aston Villa player to take too heavy a touch.

It wasn’t Ramsey’s best game, but he’s still finding a way into this Newcastle side.

Newcastle fans already have a new chant for Wissa and it’s easy to see why.

The future looks very promising indeed.
