Ross Wilson’s first major transfer call at Newcastle United has seen Antonio Cordero change clubs.
The 2025 summer signing had joined KVC Westerlo on loan, but that proved to be a disaster. He made just eight appearances for the Belgian club, which has forced Newcastle United to get ruthless.
The loan deal has now been terminated, with Antonio Cordero joining Cadiz instead.
Our first CONFIRMED deal of 2026! How badly does our loan system need a revamp, by the way?! 😡
The 19-year-old is back in Spain after leaving Malaga last year, and will spend the rest of the 2025/26 season in the Spanish second tier.
He will hopefully make up for lost time, as Newcastle United put their new plan into action.
What Newcastle United expect to happen now with Antonio Cordero
When the Magpies sent Antonio Cordero to KVC Westerlo, the hope was that he would gain valuable senior experience and further his development.
That has not happened, which has forced Toon sporting director Ross Wilson to take drastic action. He has acted quickly and sent Cordero to another club, with the hope being that a return to Spain will put the teenager back on the right path.
According to the Athletic, Newcastle United believe that Cordero will quickly be able to regain his confidence back in Spain.
The report adds that Newcastle want the winger to play more regularly, which is surely more likely in familiar surroundings.

When Antonio Cordero could make his Cadiz debut
After failing to start a single game for Westerlo, Cordero will be keen to put this nightmare behind him and kick on at Cadiz.
He could get that opportunity as early as Sunday, which is when he could make his debut for his new club.
Cadiz are in action away to Deportivo La Coruna, who are two points above them in the Spanish second division.
Cordero’s new club are sixth in the table, but could climb up to third with a win at the weekend. Hopefully Cordero can inspire Cadiz, as the Newcastle United youngster embarks on his second loan spell away from St James’ Park.
