Newcastle United will currently be weighing up what business to do in the January transfer window.
In less than two months, Newcastle United will be able to buy and sell players again. They will hope for a less dramatic window, as they continue to feel the effects of what happened during the summer.
Away from the Alexander Isak drama, it was a productive window for Eddie Howe. Newcastle United made six senior signings, with Howe adding serious depth ahead of a gruelling campaign.
The new signings have endured varying degrees of success, with Yoane Wissa providing the biggest question mark. He is yet to even make his Toon debut, having suffered a knee injury just days after his £55million arrival at St James’ Park.
Wissa has therefore made zero impact, while he has also forced Nick Woltemade to play more than expected. Newcastle’s most expensive signing has scored six goals for his new club, but he cannot do it all on his own.

Newcastle United tipped to sign another striker in January
That is why Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie thinks Newcastle United will be busy when the January transfer window opens.
Speaking on his YouTube channel after Newcastle United’s win over Athletic Club in the Champions League, Downie has predicted that signing another striker will be on the club’s agenda once 2026 arrives.
“I still think you’ll be active in January,” he said.
“I think you’ll bring in another striker. I don’t think you can get by with just Woltemade and Wissa, especially with Wissa’s problems with his knee.
“I think you need a third striker in January, so let’s see what that brings.”
Another striker would be bad news for Will Osula
Whether or not Newcastle United sign another striker will largely depend on Wissa’s impact between now and the end of 2025.
Newcastle think Wissa will shine in black and white, but that is only going to happen if he gets over this knee injury. The 29-year-old is currently building up his fitness, with the hope being that he can make his Toon debut after the November international break.
If Wissa is unable to shake off this knee problem and it continues to be an issue, Newcastle will need to go back into the transfer market in January for another striker. However, that would be bad news for Will Osula.
The 22-year-old has played an important role this season in the absence of Wissa, showing real signs of improvement. He has scored three goals in all competitions, while he played a key role in Newcastle’s recent win over Fulham.
Eddie Howe has been happy with Osula’s progress, but that progress will certainly stall if another forward arrives to push him further down the pecking order.
