Newcastle United CEO David Hopkinson has confidently predicted that the club could become a world-leading force by 2030.
For the first time since the PIF takeover at Newcastle United in October 2021, major questions have been asked about the ownership.
Indeed, leading football pundit Jamie Carragher thinks Newcastle have hit their ceiling under PIF.
If you were PIF, what would you do about Newcastle United’s stadium? 🏟️
The Newcastle United owners have faced questions about the level of their ambition but Hopkinson believes the future is very bright for the club.
Speaking to various media outlets, Hopkinson said that “By 2030, I see this club being in the debate about being the top club in the world.”
That’s certainly an exciting prediction and a major supporters’ group have responded.
Newcastle United Supporters’ Club react to David Hopkinson comments
After the snippets from Hopkinson’s interview emerged across several news platforms and on social media, the NUSC responded with a statement of their own.
They talked of the excitement of the Newcastle project, as well as the impressive comments both Hopkinson and sporting director Ross Wilson have made.
The statement did, however, add that actions will speak louder than words – which is of course very true.
“Newcastle United is one of the most exciting projects in world sport,” they wrote on X.
“Success isn’t, and won’t be, linear but the club will keep moving forward. Impressive interviews with David Hopkinson and Ross Wilson but as always, actions will speak louder than words.
“United. #NUFC.”
Pretend you’re Eddie Howe. Which position are you begging PIF to strengthen in January?
Newcastle United’s exciting five-year plan called “Project 2030” explained
Back in March and not long before winning the Carabao Cup final, PIF’s future plans at Newcastle were explained.
In an article from The Daily Telegraph, four clear targets were set out.
They were winning a trophy, building a new stadium, rejuvenating the squad, and closing the big six revenue gap.
Obviously, the trophy objective has already been completed and could well be improved upon this season, given Newcastle’s progress in defending the Carabao Cup.
Newcastle are likely to announce plans for a new stadium in 2026, too.
It seems as if Hopkinson and PIF are aligned here, which is exciting to imagine.
However, as the statement rightly points out, actions will speak louder than words. Saying these words is entirely different to actually doing them.
