Is Eddie Howe really at risk of losing his job or is that just the belief of those not associated with Newcastle United? We did some digging to find out.
It has not been a good month for Eddie Howe and his Newcastle United players. They’ve won just one league game ahead of the trip to Burnley tonight, lost the Tyne-Wear derby, and threw away plenty of points along the way.
If Newcastle United don’t beat Burnley, where would you stand on Eddie Howe’s future?
If he can secure a win on Tuesday night, it’ll be a great platform to build upon going into 2026. Indeed, Newcastle have a nice run of four league games they really should be winning through January.
While most of the noise from outside the club points to Howe being in trouble, the general consensus from within seems to suggest the opposite. So, what do the fans and Geordie Boot Boys readers think?

Eddie Howe has been let down by PIF, but Newcastle can do better
Interestingly, one of the main opinions to come from the TalkingPoints discussion around the topic of Eddie Howe’s future is that he has not been given the right tools to do his job by PIF.
One reader wrote: “Eddie has been let down by the PIF and the players.”
Another added: “Eddie is a hero but the players are letting him down. He needs better players and money to get them. He needs a top keeper and a top top striker and get rid of the players we no longer need.”
A third said: “[We] would be silly to get rid. A poorly planned summer window has not helped one bit. Signing unneeded players, and then leaving it late to get priority positions.”
That very much aligns with Howe’s own comments about the club being in limbo under PIF right now.
However, there are murmurs from some who think Howe could and should be replaced eventually if the club wants to move forward.
One comment said: “He’s done all that he could, if Newcastle want to progress then he’s not the guy.”
Another spoke about an alternate reality where Unai Emery had been hired instead. We asked whether the Villa boss would have been more likely to win silverware than Howe, with one reader replying, “Without a doubt,” and another adding, “Yes, and more.”

Was Eddie Howe just being honest here or are you reading something deeper into the quote?
Waiting until the summer to part ways makes sense
Obviously, Eddie Howe will not be Newcastle United manager forever. In fact, there’s a good chance he moves on in the summer, whether that’s voluntary or not.
The problem right now is there’s not really anyone to replace Howe. Why would the club rush to sack someone who has done a great job with no significant upgrade available?
It would be far more prudent to spend the next six months planning the upgrade and give Howe the chance to leave on positive terms. By the summer, we know Oliver Glasner is likely to be available for a start. Plus, there will likely be more options as the managerial merry-go-round takes shape over the next few months.
Patience is key for Newcastle. Not only in terms of sticking by Howe, but in finding his successor.
