Newcastle United finally have Yoane Wissa available, which means the season starts here.

Up until now, Eddie Howe has only been able to rely on Nick Woltemade up front. Anthony Gordon and Will Osula have featured through the middle, but neither have truly given Newcastle United’s most expensive signing the cover he needs.

Now that cover has arrived, with Yoane Wissa making his Newcastle United debut in the 2-1 win over Burnley on Saturday.

Wissa was delighted to finally play for Newcastle United, as he attempts to make up for lost time in black and white.

Yoane Wissa welcomed back by Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes

The Newcastle United squad are delighted to finally have Yoane Wissa available, having trained alongside him for weeks.

It was reported that Wissa has been ‘frightening’ in training, and his teammates will be keen to see him take that form to the pitch.

Toon captain Bruno Guimaraes is certainly delighted to be playing with the number nine, having sent him a message on his official Instagram account.

“Nice to have you back brother,” he wrote on his story in response to Wissa making his debut.

The duo played together for around 20 minutes, while Wissa was actually the first player to celebrate with Bruno following his ridiculous goal directly from a corner.

Wissa was closest to jump on the Brazilian, as he warmed up while Bruno curled a corner over ex-Toon goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

Champions League debut next on Yoane Wissa’s agenda

Wissa’s focus now will be building up his match fitness. His next opportunity to do that comes on Wednesday night when the Magpies face Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.

Following Newcastle’s loss to Marseille, the game at the BayArena is massively important for Eddie Howe.

It is even more important for Wissa, who will be hoping to make his Champions League debut. The chance to play in Europe’s biggest competition was a big factor in the striker moving to Tyneside, and now that dream can finally become a reality.

On potentially making his Champions League debut against Bayer Leverkusen, Wissa told Newcastle’s official website: “I never played Champions League before, so it’s going to be my first time. Looking forward to that, to win against Leverkusen. Hopefully score against Mark Flekken, my old teammate.”
