Yoane Wissa was involved in Newcastle United’s celebrations following Saturday’s Premier League win over Manchester City.

Wissa remains on the injury list for Newcastle United but was at St James’ Park as Eddie Howe’s side recorded their biggest win of the season to date.

Indeed, Newcastle beat Man City 2-1 thanks to a Harvey Barnes brace and, in truth, they could well have scored more.

Who was your Newcastle United MOTM against Manchester City?

Barnes squandered some good chances in the first half, while Nick Woltemade may have done better with a few openings before the break too.

Still, three points are all that matters and Wissa clearly enjoyed it during the post-match celebrations in the tunnel.

William Osula urged Yoane Wissa to join Newcastle United’s lap of honour after Man City win

According to The Chronicle, Wissa was part of the Newcastle lap of honour for the first time after being pushed to join it by William Osula.

That would hopefully suggest he’s a popular figure behind the scenes despite his lack of action.

After the game, the club’s official Twitter account shared a video of the players celebrating as they entered the tunnel.

Wissa was embracing Emil Krafth, celebrating the victory alongside his teammates in the tunnel.

The DR Congo forward also formed part of Newcastle’s post-match celebration photo inside the dressing room at St James’.

It’s brilliant to see Wissa involved. His injury absence has been frustrating for supporters, but it cannot have been easy for him either.

Yoane Wissa tells Newcastle United he loves them already

Watching on from the stands, Wissa uploaded a story on Instagram.

He simply captioned a photo of the team in action: “I love you @nufc.”

Clearly, he’s settling in well behind the scenes. That might not do much to ease the frustration about his injury, but it’s something at least.

How many games Yoane Wissa missed through injury during his entire Brentford career

Sums up Newcastle United’s bad luck… 😡

2021-22 season – 8 games

2022-23 season – 0 games

2023-24 season – 0 games

2024-25 season – 8 games

Wissa is ready to start a pre-season training schedule with Newcastle as they look to build up his fitness.

While his return date remains unclear, that feels like a step in the right direction.

So far, the move hasn’t worked out and Wissa is under a lot of pressure to prove worth the money spent on him.

Celebrations in the tunnel will not help that much but it does at least show the striker is involved behind the scenes.
