Jorgen Strand Larsen may not have signed for Newcastle this summer, but fans still have plenty to say about the Wolves striker.
This weekend, we saw Nick Woltemade continue his incredible start to life at Newcastle with a brace against Chelsea. That takes his tally to nine goals in all competitions this season, and it’s safe to say he’s been a successful addition to the squad.
Who is the one player you wish Newcastle United signed in the summer?
We missed out on a lot, but I'm not upset we didn't sign Strand Larsen in the end!
Meanwhile, it was another blank weekend for Strand Larsen down at Wolves. His side remain rock bottom of the Premier League table after defeat to Brentford, and the Norwegian striker was unable to find the back of the net again.
Strand Larsen was denied the chance to join Newcastle this summer, and Magpies fans have now been debating whether that was a lucky escape or if this is just a case of a good player being stuck in a rut with a poor team.
Are we being unfair on Jorgen Strand Larsen?
Over on Twitter/X, Newcastle fan Adam Pearson wrote: “One goal in 15 league games for Jorgen Strand Larsen playing for a side who are currently the worst team in Premier League history. Just a player struggling in a bad team or did Newcastle United dodge a £60m bullet on him?”
It seems the consensus leans towards the former, with many Newcastle fans still backing Strand Larsen to be a success. One said, “Don’t think he can really be judged playing in that team,” while another added, “He is class. Just a horrible team.”
A third replied: “He gets no service and has had a few injuries this season. I still rate him and think he’s a solid player – not worth £60m but still worth picking up when they go down.”
That’s an interesting discussion, too. While some think that signing Strand Larsen would have been a “disaster” there are plenty who think it’s worth Newcastle going back in for him in the summer.
In that vein, one supporter posted: “Just need to get him for a more reasonable price in the summer. We were in panic mode… we won’t be next time when they’ve been relegated and needing to shift some players.”
Whether that happens or not, supporters are obviously happy with how the summer played out in the end. As one said, “We didn’t have much of a menu to choose from. We got lucky with Nick [Woltemade].”
YOU are in control – who are you signing?
It's obvious what Newcastle United need in January. Now you have the money to spend. Use it wisely!
Could Newcastle go back in for Strand Larsen?
So, should Newcastle actually revisit their interest in Strand Larsen come the summer? It is thought West Ham are now keen, and that Wolves would now consider selling Strand Larsen.
If the price is reduced, then it may be something Newcastle think about. He’s obviously a good striker who is capable of scoring goals at this level, as he proved last season.
With William Osula likely to leave Newcastle now, there will be a need for reinforcements in the attacking area. A cut-price deal for Strand Larsen might just be exactly what the Magpies need.
