Newcastle United youngster Trevan Sanusi is finally up and running at Lorient.

The 18-year-old left Newcastle United during the summer transfer window to join Lorient on loan, heading to Ligue 1 to experience more senior football.

However, Trevan Sanusi has not actually gained a lot of experience thus far. His loan spell with Lorient has been derailed by an ankle injury, with the winger only just returning to fitness.

The Newcastle United academy star has now finally made his debut for his new club, and did his best to make up for lost time.

Trevan Sanusi scores and assists on Lorient debut

While Newcastle United were drawing 2-2 with Chelsea, Lorient were in action against AS Gosier in the fifth round of the Coupe de France.

They advanced to the next round of the competition with a resounding 7-0 win, with Sanusi involved in the sixth and seventh goals.

Having been introduced as a substitute in the 57th minute, the teenager got his first senior assist 18 minutes later after supplying the pass for Mohamed Bamba.

Sanusi then scored himself four minutes later, making it 7-0 with a right-footed strike.

This will hopefully prove to be a big moment for Sanusi, who will now be eyeing up his Ligue 1 debut for Lorient.

Newcastle United may have to re-think Trevan Sanusi plan

Given his injury and subsequent lack of minutes, it was recently reported that Newcastle United could recall Sanusi in January.

However, that may no longer be necessary now that he is finally up and running over in France.

The hope will be that he can stay fit and start to have a serious impact for Lorient, as he is very much a player who Newcastle United have high hopes for.

Newcastle think Sanusi is unique, and will have ambitions of him becoming a permanent member of the first-team squad in the future. He has already made his senior debut for Eddie Howe’s side, featuring in the FA Cup third round win over Bromley last season.
