Yoane Wissa’s career at Newcastle United may finally be set to start imminently.
The injury that Wissa suffered back in September has so far denied him the chance to make his Newcastle United debut following a dramatic late move from Brentford.
For an age now, it’s felt like no one is quite sure when Eddie Howe will be able to use the DR Congo international for the first time.
How many goals do you think Yoane Wissa will actually score for Newcastle United this season?
Some degree of clarity, however, emerged earlier this week. Wissa will not be playing at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations, with his full focus said to be on life at club level.
Interestingly, Wissa has been pushing to make his Newcastle debut against Burnley.
After a development behind the scenes, that could well turn out to be the case.
Yoane Wissa comes through another training game, debut vs Burnley possible
That’s because, according to Luke Edwards on social media platform X, Wissa reportedly came through another 11v11 game behind closed doors unscathed.
The forward is building up his fitness and the mood music is certainly positive.
Having returned to the fold away from the cameras, Wissa has impressed his teammates in Newcastle training.
Edwards adds that there is indeed a chance the 29-year-old will be on the bench against the Clarets at St James’ Park on Saturday.
Not long until we see THIS Yoane Wissa!
Why Newcastle United need Yoane Wissa back so badly
Wissa offers a virtual guarantee of Premier League goals, considering his fine record while a Brentford player.
He’s scored 45 goals in 137 appearances in England’s elite division and while expecting too much too soon would be foolish, his track record is already proven.
Able to run in behind and stretch defences in a way that Nick Woltemade just can’t, he should bring an extra dimension into Howe’s team.
His return would also allow Woltemade a much-needed rest at times. The German has been brilliant but cannot do it all on his own.
Howe was desperate for Newcastle to sign Wissa and supporters could be about to see why very soon.
