Journalist shares fresh Eddie Howe insight after Newcastle manager advised to look at England job by pundit

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe continues to be tipped as a potential England manager.

Indeed, England were interested in Howe back in 2024 following Gareth Southgate’s departure, although he ultimately remained at Newcastle United after a tricky summer.

The 47-year-old then cemented his legacy at the club by winning the Carabao Cup and leading them back into the Champions League.

Howe is arguably Newcastle’s greatest-ever manager, but that does not mean he’s not under pressure.

Newcastle have endured a miserable start to the domestic season, to the point where pundit Jamie Carragher has advised Howe to be on alert for the England job.

Thomas Tuchel is currently in charge of the Three Lions, but his contract expires after next summer’s World Cup and his long-term future with England remains unclear beyond that point.

With that in mind, Geordie Boot Boys spoke exclusively to noted football insider Graeme Bailey.

England job may be too tempting for Eddie Howe

Bailey told the website that the expectation is that Tuchel will leave after next summer’s tournament.

That could change, of course, depending on how well his side fare in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

While Bailey revealed that his information indicates that Howe wouldn’t necessarily push for the job should the FA make a move, he may struggle to outright reject it.

“Eddie Howe’s name is going to be linked with England, it is not going away,” said Bailey.

“The expectation is that Thomas Tuchel departs after the World Cup finals.

“Would Eddie be tempted? I am not sure he would pursue it, but at the same time do I see him saying ‘no’ if the Football Association came calling? No, I don’t.

“It’s a subject that’s certain going to come up in 2026.”

The Newcastle United player who thinks Eddie Howe will become England manager

Tuchel’s appointment last year caused a fair amount of debate.

While undoubtedly a hugely successful manager, many were questioning what appointing a foreign boss said about English coaching.

Howe is perhaps the one leading example of excellence in English management right now.

In March, he became the first English manager to win a major domestic trophy since Harry Redknapp back in 2008.

As such, Bruno Guimaraes is convinced that Howe will one day become England manager

“He is by far the best European coach I’ve had,” said Guimaraes in May.

“No doubt he’ll be England manager one day.”

It’s certainly a huge possibility but PIF continue to back Howe at Newcastle and hopefully his tenure lasts for a few more years at least.
