'I don't know what I was thinking': Joe Cole changes his mind about Bruno Guimaraes live on TV

Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes was suddenly cut from pundit Joe Cole’s Premier League Team of the Season live on air.

While Guimaraes certainly hasn’t enjoyed a perfect campaign for Newcastle United, he has produced some standout performances.

Indeed, the Brazilian is on course for his best-ever season in terms of goals for the club.

I’m fed up of hearing that Newcastle United are on the right track this season – prove me wrong! 🤔

Can’t see out a lead. Can’t come from behind. Can’t win away from home.

Can someone tell me what I’m supposed to be applauding?

Guimaraes has already scored five goals this season, with his best-ever campaign in front of goal coming when he bagged seven times in 2023/24.

The 28-year-old has, like the rest of his teammates, been inconsistent this season.

Still, he is a charismatic leader at his very best and there’s little doubt that Guimaraes is one of Newcastle’s greatest ever midfielders, so it was logical that Cole had the midfielder in his Team of the Season.

Well, until he didn’t….

Joe Cole takes Bruno Guimaraes out of his Team of the Season live on air

The former Chelsea and England star was speaking on TNT Sports during their live coverage of Manchester City’s win over Nottingham Forest.

Cole, one of the leading pundits working on UK television, had Guimaraes in his selection for his Team of the Season.

However, while speaking live on air, Cole changed his mind and dropped the Brazilian in favour of Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers.

Who is most responsible for Newcastle United’s struggles this season?

Eddie Howe, the owners or the players?

Clearly, Rogers is much more of an attacking player, so a direct comparison is not entirely fair.

“The only disclaimer I want to put in is that Guimaraes would come out for Morgan Rogers now,” he said.

“Listen, yeah, I’m happy with it, a good balance but look at what Rogers has done to the Premier League, he’s been sensational, he’s been the form player, I don’t know what I was thinking,

“Sorry for Bruno, but I would now change and put Morgan in.”

How Bruno Guimaraes feels about Newcastle United amid current struggles

Guimaraes is committed to the cause at Newcastle and reportedly dreams of winning another Carabao Cup with the club.

The sight of him lifting the trophy at Wembley earlier this year will go down in club history and while the idea of it happening again currently seems remote, it would be fine way for the team to respond to their increasing list of doubters.

Guimaraes is clearly passionate about Newcastle, so must be feeling their current plight as much as anyone on the playing staff.

Hopefully, he can lead the team and turn things around.
