However, his time at the club might be coming to an end soon. There are reports that Schar could head to Germany, either in January or in the summer.
Whenever Fabian Schar does leave, though, he will be remembered fondly by Newcastle fans. Especially after what he did to Liverpool last year.

Newcastle had twice taken the lead against the eventual title winners. Alexander Isak scored first, ironically, but Curtis Jones equalised shortly after half-time. Anthony Gordon restored the Magpies’ lead just after the hour mark, but a Mo Salah double turned the game on its head.
It could have been another case of points thrown away by Newcastle, but Schar came to the rescue in the final minute with a sliding effort at the back post to make it 3-3.
Interestingly, Salah’s second goal had gone through Schar’s legs just minutes earlier, so the fact the Swiss star was able to redeem himself in such dramatic circumstances was a brilliant twist in the script.
Newcastle opportunities limited for Fabian Schar
Sadly, Schar is now further down the pecking order in the Newcastle United squad and is struggling to get minutes on the pitch.
He discussed this in the matchday programme ahead of the Spurs game, saying: “Being on the bench has been quite difficult. It wasn’t an easy situation. I think I did pretty well at the start of the season. Then I had the concussion… I hadn’t done anything wrong or played bad – but it’s very hard to get back in the team.
“It was a new situation which has never been the case in the last four years. A lot of things which were new and not easy. It’s something I know will happen because I’m getting older, but I don’t want it to happen.
“I still feel I can bring a lot to the team. I just want to be on the pitch and do the same thing I’ve tried to do over the last seven years and leave my heart on the pitch.”

Since the arrival of Malick Thiaw this summer, it’s understandable that Schar would find his gametime limited. But, he’s still frustrated.
He added: “Obviously the gaffer knew I wasn’t happy but I tried to stay calm and just train well. I knew I’d get another chance – it was more from how everything happened.
“I’m not stupid, we have a lot of quality in the squad, we’ve bought younger players in. But as long as I can, I know I’ll be able to help the team and can still add something to the team.”
