Is there anything that Malick Thiaw can’t do for Newcastle United?! It feels like the answer is ‘no’ given his recent performances.
The 24-year-old was outstanding during Newcastle United’s win over Manchester City after the international break. Malick Thiaw kept Erling Haaland quiet, ensuring that the Norwegian striker continued his run of games without a goal against the Magpies.
The centre-back then made the difference at the other end of the pitch, with Thiaw scoring two headers in Newcastle United’s win over Everton.
If Malick Thiaw wasn’t your MOTM against Everton, who was?
Malick Thiaw wins back-to-back player of the match poll
It was another brilliant display from the Germany international, who came out on top of Geordie Boot Boys’ player of the match poll.
Thiaw received just over 66% of the votes, with 681 out of 1023 Toon fans picking the £34million summer signing. His closest competitor was Lewis Miley, who received 201 votes.
It is the second Premier League game in a row that Thiaw has won our post-match poll, with the Magpies’ number 12 also receiving the highest number of votes after the win over Manchester City.
That sums up the level of consistency he has found since joining Newcastle United. Thiaw has settled in with ease, needing no time at all to adapt to Premier League football.
He is undoubtedly Newcastle’s best summer signing.
Eddie Howe hints Malick Thiaw could score more for Newcastle United
Thiaw’s two goals in Newcastle’s win over Everton means he has now doubled his entire tally at AC Milan. During his three years at the San Siro, he scored just once.
His brace at the Hill Dickinson Stadium will have delighted Eddie Howe, who has hinted that the defender could score even more goals for his side this season from set pieces.
Hello! It’s time to talk all things Newcastle United vs Tottenham. What are some of your early predictions?
“It’s an interesting one with Malick because he’s ended up, if you look back at our set plays, getting his head on quite a bit so his movement, his aggression, his timing is really good,” he said, as reported by Newcastle United’s official X account.
“But he hadn’t put the finishing touches to that in the way he did on Saturday with two great headers. It’s great to see that work coming good for us.
“The importance of set play goals, we’ve discussed so many times. It wins and loses you games so it’s great to see us on the right side of it, hopefully that continues.”
Thiaw’s next chance to score will be when Newcastle United face Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park, but his main priority will be keeping a clean sheet as the Magpies go in search of three consecutive Premier League victories.
