Sir Kenny Dalglish has made public his cancer diagnosis.
The former Newcastle United and Liverpool manager revealing this on Tuesday (2 June 2026).
However, the former player and manager doing so inadvertently.
Sir Kenny Dalglish by mistake posting this on social media.
Then following that up with an intended social media message to clarify the situation.
Sir Kenny Dalglish wrote: “As my inadvertent social media post has indicated, I am currently undergoing treatment for cancer. Unlike my mobile phone use, the treatment is going well. Ideally, this would have remained private because that’s the way it should be, but my useless technology skills have forced my hand.”
The former Newcastle United boss going on to say: “Obviously I did not mean to make this matter public so I would appreciate it if the privacy of my family and myself are respected. As ever, thank you to the wonderful medical staff who have shown incredible care and discretion, not just for me but for many, many others. They are a credit to themselves.”
Liverpool FC putting out a message of support: ‘The support, best wishes and love of everyone at Liverpool FC are, and will be, with Sir Kenny and his family.’
Newcastle United FC doing the same: ‘Everyone at Newcastle United extends love and best wishes to Sir Kenny Dalglish and his family following his cancer diagnosis.’
Kevin Keegan announced his own fight against cancer in January 2026.
The pair were born only 18 days apart, Kevin Keegan on 14 February 1951 and then Sir Kenny Dalglish on 4 March 1951.
