Tuesday afternoon brought shock news on Tino Livramento, The Telegraph breaking the story that the Newcastle United defender has picked up an injury that will see him miss the World Cup with England.
We brought you news on The Mag of that Matt Law Telegraph exclusive, Law reporting that his information was that Tino Livramento has picked up a new hamstring injury in training.
This has been swiftly followed up by another media exclusive on the Newcastle United and England defender.
Craig Hope is out in the States covering England at the 2026 World Cup finals for The Mail.
He has followed up the initial Telegraph report by saying it is actually a calf issue, not a hamstring problem.
Hope reports that scans have confirmed a low-grade tear to the calf.
The good news is that Tino Livramento should be fine to be ready for 2026/27 new season NUFC preparations. However, The Mail report that this injury will still impact Tino for a number of weeks and so he is set to fly home and miss the tournament.
Craig Hope stating that Tino Livramento: “Will pick up rehab work at NUFC in time for pre-season. Unlikely to be replaced by Lewis Hall in States.”
The Telegraph had put forward the name of Chelsea’s right-footed central defender Trevoh Chalobah as a likely last-minute replacement. Although Lewis Hall would seem to be a more logical replacement for his United teammate and of course is a far better player than Chalobah anyway.
The Telegraph reported that: ‘Tuchel can replace Livramento 24 hours before England’s first game against Croatia in Group L on Wednesday.’
