PGMOL and Premier League make decisive decision on Chris Kavanagh after shambles in FA Cup

Chris Kavanagh made headlines on Saturday at the Aston Villa v Newcastle United match.

As he gave one of the worst ever displays of refereeing that you could possibly witness.

Chris Kavanagh and the other match officials giving a series on unbelievable decisions that penalised Newcastle United.

At that FA Cup match, Kavanagh was ‘helped by Assistant Referees Gary Beswick and Nick Greenhalgh, with the Fourth Official Paul Tierney.

There was of course no VAR…

Now on Monday, PGMOL and the Premier League have announced the match officials who will take charge of the ten games next weekend, which are spread over three days.

One name conspicuous by it’s absence.

Yes, Chris Kavanagh not getting a Premier League game in Matchweek 27 to referee, nor even a job as the VAR at a match.

Paul Tierney is once again a fourth official,, at the Brentford v Brighton match on Saturday. He is also the VAR at Forest v Liverpool on Sunday.

Gary Beswick is an assistant referee at that Forest v Liverpool match, as he was at Villa.

Nick Greenhalgh, who was the other assistant referee at Villa Park, he has no Premier League appointments either this coming weekend.

My guess is that neither PGMOL or the Premier League will make any kind of official announcement confirming that Chris Kavanagh has been dropped.

Instead they will no doubt just say nothing and then quietly reintroduce him again in the near future.

Here’s hoping that he isn’t allowed to referee in the Premier League (or cups!) in the future, or at the very least, no Newcastle United matches!
