Jamie Carragher watched on as Newcastle United lost 4-1 to Leeds United.
The match at Elland Road effectively over in a two-minute period when Leeds scored twice just after the half hour mark.
Calvert-Lewin added another just before the break, then Okafor the fourth as the hour mark approached.
Newcastle United’s bad luck with injuries continues, Anthony Elanga a surprise to be missing from the matchday squad on Monday night as he joined the likes of Dan Burn, Ewen Jaoeun, Joelinton and William Osula on the sidelines.
That bad luck going up yet another level when Nico Gonzalez was forced off after only 19 minutes with what appeared to be concussion.
Jamie Carragher telling Sky Sports: “Leeds are fifth in the Premier League table since December. That should make Newcastle feel better as it has been a bad night for them when the world was watching. They have been beaten up by a really good Premier League team. It will be a tough season at times for Newcastle with the manager and young players finding their feet in the Premier League. They just got beaten up.”
To have half a dozen players ruled out so early in the season is a cruel blow, especially when it is a recently appointed manager and a very youthful largely inexperienced set of new signings.
In matches like this against a big and physical experienced Leeds side, Newcastle really needed the likes of Joelinton and Gonzalez in midfield, Osula up front and arguably Burn at the back. Whilst Elanga has started the season in great form as well.
Jamie Carragher going on to say: “I look at players in Premier League tunnels now and think I’m not sure I could’ve coped. I wasn’t the biggest centre-back. I think I might be too small to play now. The power, pace and physicality just goes up every year. Calvert-Lewin has been unplayable tonight, I love watching him play. I would’ve said he’s been perfect, but he did miss an easy one earlier.”
