Newcastle United set out deadline for fans to leave tributes to Kevin Keegan at St James’ Park

The club have now set out a deadline for Newcastle United fans leaving tributes to Kevin Keegan at St James’ Park.

Supporters spontaneously started to leave tributes to the United legend when news of his passing was made public on Monday.

Emotional scenes since then, as more and more Newcastle United fans have added to the Kevin Keegan tributes at St James’ Park.

Now on Friday, the club putting out an official update.

The Newcastle United official statement beginning with: ‘The thousands of tributes left in memory of Kevin Keegan at St. James’ Park have been a moving reminder of what he meant to this club, this city and the wider football community. Thank you to everyone who has visited to pay their respects. Club staff will begin carefully gathering floral tributes and items left in Kevin’s memory from Tuesday 28th July, enabling people to visit and leave items until late on Monday.’

The club adding: ‘Flowers will be processed in a respectful and environmentally responsible way, including being recycled into high quality soil conditioner that will be used on the club’s Academy pitches. We know many of you have also left shirts and scarves among the tributes. We’re working with our Fan Advisory Board on potential options, and we’ll share more on this in due course.’

Newcastle United ending their update with: ‘Finally, we’d kindly ask supporters not to leave alcohol among the tributes to help keep the site safe for everyone. The book of condolence will remain open for supporters at the club’s Box Office, which is open 8am – 8pm. Thank you, as ever, for the love you’ve shown Kevin and his family this week.’
