Interesting to read through these BBC Sport ‘neutrals’ comments, following on from Newcastle United winning against West Ham United.

Eddie Howe watching on as Nick Woltemade opened the scoring and then William Osula added two more.

The Hammers with only a late (no) consolation goal.

A 3-1 win for Newcastle in their final home match of the season.

No surprise though that the post-match conversation is mainly about the impact on West Ham (and Spurs!).

The BBC Sport readers comments from neutrals, some from West Ham fans, Newcastle supporters also contributing, as well as plenty of Tottenham fans:

‘Can someone explain why some west ham supporters were leaving the ground after 20 minutes? what a joke.’

‘It’s because it’s very cheap in the Pubs in Newcastle, so drown your sorrows whilst watching the game , and get drunk there.’

‘They are only cheap relatively speaking. Cheap by London standards but not by North East standards.’

’20 minutes is enough in Newcastle.’

‘They have had enough. Of the club, of the team, of the manager.’

‘They didn’t leave .. they went to the bar to drown their sorrows .. who can blame them.’

‘(Spurs fan) Firstly Tripps what a career, well done fella!

Second, Toon, thanks for turning up and playing WH off the park.

Last WH, for all the BS you gave us a few weeks ago about going down… Karma lads, Karma…’

‘Just to say Trippier may well slag off the Geordies when he leaves, he has a habit of rubbishing his previous clubs.’

‘Bloody cheating Newcastle. Playing a full strength team and winning. Disgusting behaviour.’

‘Var even ignored a handball, but it didnt help.’

‘(Spurs fan) Thats two big favours geordies have done for us last few years. They beat arsenal so we got in champions league a few years ago. And now today. Thanks Newcastle. We owe you.’

‘I think Spurs owe Villa more than Spurs owe Newcastle.’

‘Today I was a Newcastle supporter, last week I was an Arsenal supporter (briefly)… at some point I’d really like to get back to just being a Spurs supporter again!’

‘Daughter in law is a Sunderland fan and so to have the whole family being Toons for the afternoon was very strange now can we go back to being just a spurs fans !!!!’

‘Thank you Newcastle for being honest.’

‘Unlike Villa! Come on Freiburg!’

‘As a Spurs fan well done Newcastle. I have always had a bit of a soft spot for Newcastle but then both my Nan & Grandad were from Gateshead and my cousin, also from Gateshead, played over 400 games for Burnley years ago. It’s easy to laugh at other fans misfortune but despite the rivalry, it must be hurting spammers fans so much, it’s not nice, it really is tough but this ain’t over yet.’

‘To be fair if Newcastle hadn’t won it would have meant finishing below Sunderland which is still going to happen anyway.’

‘I’m a Spurs fan and hope this helps us stay up. No celebration from me if we get our point. Just relief and I will feel sorry for Westham fans. This has been an awful experience.’

‘Good riddance West Ham, don’t let the door hit you on the way down. That free stadium courtesy of the taxpayer really made you a massive club, didn’t it?’

‘After reading ‘micky taking’ and offensive comments from other club’s supporters on the Spur’s forum, I thought that I would come on here and get my own back. Thank you Newcastle for doing us a really big favour!!’

‘West Ham are more or less relegated you’d say.

What is in their favour though is it’s Tottenham they’re battling with and we all know it’s possible for them to go a little bit Spursy. (Is that in the English dictionary yet?)

On this occasion due to them appointing Roberto De Zerbi you feel it won’t happen.

Bottle of Claret anyone?’

‘A week or two ago comments were spuds v lincoln! How times change!’

‘Nowhere near good enough today. Bowen anonymous, very nervy until 2 down. Thank you Sullivan!’

‘Bowen could grace St James’ Park next season, hopefully!’

‘To be fighting relegation again he has bigger ambitions.’

‘Champions League push. It was only a season ago, have you forgotten what Eddie Howe can do when he has full weeks to prepare for matches over a whole season?’
