The clock is now ticking for key Newcastle United signings to be made.
Lessons to have been learnt and dynamic action taken in the quest for the club to bounce back from a disappointing 2025/26 Premier League campaign.
The Newcastle United owners were responsible for a chaotic and disastrous summer 2025 of pre-season preparations.
Eddie Howe asking the club’s owners to make sure they were dynamic in last summer’s transfer window to move early and decisively to land his key essential targets.
Instead, only Anthony Elanga was signed (on 11 July 2025) in time to have a pre-season with their new teammates and Eddie Howe. None of the other (eventual) Newcastle United signings in summer 2025 had any pre-season with the NUFC squad and manager. The Alexander Isak situation totally mismanaged by the Newcastle United owners and sold on deadline day after the owners had previously made clear he wouldn’t be allowed to leave at all.
Eddie Howe especially desperate to have his strikers sorted early with Callum Wilson having already left, instead Yoane Wissa wasn’t signed until September 2025 and Nick Woltemade on 30 August 2025.
The Newcastle United squad are scheduled to return for pre-season on Monday 13 July 2026.
So I make it 18 days we have to see some more key Newcastle United signings made.
By that point of returning for pre-season, there will be less than six weeks to go until Newcastle United kick off their Premier League season against Liverpool on Sunday 23 August.
I know things don’t always go according to plan in transfer windows, things can happen beyond your control….BUT I do think we need to have at least two new Newcastle United signings arrive in these next 18 days, preferably three. That is of course on top of the very welcome addition of Ewen Jaouen who has already arrived.
We need to hit pre-season preparations running and not playing very late catch up like last summer.
The spotlight is now very much on Sporting Director Ross Wilson to deliver Eddie Howe’s transfer targets in a timely fashion.
