This is really good from Henry Winter on Newcastle United.

This follows Matthias Jaissle and his Newcastle players wrapping up this first section of the season and going into a 23 days wait for the next match, due to an extended international break.

United having played seven matches so far, picking up four wins, two draws and just the one defeat.

Henry Winter was previously the Chief Football Writer at The Times for many years and is working freelance now.

We are so used to the national media putting out clueless or deliberately misleading coverage of what is happening at Newcastle United and this is such a refreshing departure from that.

Henry Winter knows his stuff and writes honestly about Newcastle United.

Two things that you can rarely say about journalists who operate from outside Tyneside.

Henry Winter having this to say after that huge Newcastle United win over Hull City on Saturday: “Newcastle United had five academy players on the bench against Hull City. Three 17-year-olds: Kyran Thompson (via West Ham and Arsenal), Michael Mills and Mason Miley. Plus Miodrag Pivas, 21, and Vakhtang Salia, 19. None came on, still to make their first-team debuts. Reflects the injury issues – nine out – that Matthias Jaissle having to deal with. Inevitably running on fumes by the end but held on for three points against in-form Hull. Shows players’ determination to make amends for Leeds defeat, their belief in each other and in Jaissle. Timely going into international break – when they hope to have a few of the injured returning.”

I couldn’t have said it better myself.
