The number of Newcastle United players missing due to injury has been a nightmare in the opening stages of this season.

Some individuals carrying injuries and/or recoveries into the new 2026-27 season that pre-existed from last season.

For others there were new issues picked up in pre-season.

With then for a growing number of other Newcastle United players, Matthias Jaissle then had new injured stars every week after the season kicked off, or at least it has felt like that.

The United boss finding himself reach a ‘peak’ when nine first team squad players were unavailable for the win over Hull, then following that we have seen some return to the matchday squad for the last couple of games but still yet to be fully fit and ready to start games according to Matthias Jaissle.

Ahead of Crystal Palace on Sunday, there has been an update on a number of Newcastle United players.

Craig Hope at The Mail is usually very reliable when it comes to hearing what is the case with injured players and their recoveries, now he has given this insight below.

Tino Livramento saw injury ruin his 2026 World Cup finals and the start to this Newcastle United season.

The full-back eventually came back and was a 90th minute sub against Bournemouth, got longer second half spells off the bench against Millwall and Leeds, before then disappearing once again for the most recent next three games.

The man from The Mail now giving this update on the England international: “Tino Livramento has suffered a knee injury. Given his history of significant knee problems, the club are understandably cautious. I’m told that the issue, first felt in training last month, was initially thought to be innocuous. However, after tests, it was revealed that Livramento needed a period of rest and recovery. He has avoided serious injury, I understand, and has been doing some light work on the grass the past week or so. It is too early for a definite return date, but work has now begun in terms of easing him back to full fitness. The England defender was forced to pull out of last month’s international fixtures and he is unlikely to make next month’s internationals either.”

Craig Hope also giving some insight on three other Newcastle United players: “Matias Fernandez-Pardo has been suffering from an illness but I can reveal some good news on Anthony Elanga, he has been back with the group this week and is pushing for involvement on Sunday [against Crystal Palace]. Palace may come too soon but all of the noises around him are positive. Jacob Ramsey is due back this week but we’re awaiting an update.”
