Tottenham have agreed to buy Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United.
After trying to force United to sell for £75m and then a second bid of £90m, Spurs finally accepting that they had to meet the £100m Newcastle United valuation.
Sky Sports saying their information is that it is a guaranteed £92.5m transfer fee and then very achievable future bonus amounts of £7.5m on top.
The £100m transfer deal and reported wages of £15m per year for Sandro Tonali, meant that the Italy international left with no option but to sign for a club who have been fighting relegation in recent times, finishing fourth bottom of the Premier in both 2024/25 and 2025/26.
Sandro Tonali is now flying from Italy to London to take his medical and complete his transfer, he stopped to speak to reporters at Linate Airport in Milan.
Asked about heading to Tottenham, with no alternatives on the table Sandro Tonali stating: “We have decided to change and we are ready for this new adventure.”
The Newcastle United midfielder is smashing Tottenham’s transfer record and at the same time becomes the most expensive Italian footballer of all time.
He will also become Tottenham’s best paid player on those £15m a season wages, something which was of course a key factor in his willingness to go to Spurs.
Sandro Tonali making clear he would rather have signed for a Serie A club but they couldn’t come anywhere near the transfer fee and wages Tottenham were prepared to pay: “Very difficult, we have spoken about it, but there hasn’t been an opportunity for it.”
His time at Newcastle United has seen constant claims that he wanted to return to Serie A and of course, to one club in particular: “We talk about it [A potential return to AC Milan] every time, one day if there is an opportunity, we will talk about it seriously.”
