Brian Brobbey is now away on international duty with The Netherlands and has been talking to Dutch media.
ESPN have been covering his quotes after the striker’s call up.
They begin their piece: ‘Brian Brobbey is popular in England. Last Sunday, he secured the victory for Sunderland in the derby against Newcastle with a goal just before time. At the Dutch national team’s training camp, the former Ajax player looks back on his first months in the Premier League.’
Signed for £23m from Ajax on 1 September 2025, the Sunderland striker now has six goals in 25 appearances for the Mackems.
However, as ESPN explain, whilst Brian Brobbey agreed to play for Sunderland, he had no intention of living there: ‘Brian Brobbey lives in the city of arch-rival Newcastle, about a forty-minute drive from the club. “It’s no Amsterdam,” says Brobbey. “But sometimes rest is good for your head too.”
ESPN continuing: ‘Nowadays, he finds that peace even in his old city [of Amsterdam], where he can still be found occasionally. “Then I think to myself: what am I doing here [in Amsterdam]? It is so boring.”
Brian Brobbey might find he is now recognised a little more often in Newcastle Upon Tyne, the city where he has chosen to live.
