BBC Sport have reported that Arsenal are ‘set to make’ a formal offer to Newcastle United for Bruno Guimaraes.
Sami Mokbel is BBC Sport Senior football correspondent.
He says that he has been told: ‘Arsenal are set to make a £70m offer for Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes.’
Mokbel adds: ‘Brazil international Guimaraes is a priority target for the Gunners, with the midfielder keen to join the Premier League champions.’
For over a month now we have seen Arsenal acting appallingly, using journalists to put out reports of their interest in Bruno Guimaraes.
These reports claiming over the course of recent weeks that Arsenal are prepared to pay £50m-£70m (amounts varying and depending on which claims you read and when) for Newcastle United’s best player and captain. At the same time as Sandro Tonali has been signed for £100m, Elliot Anderson for £116m and Morgan Rogers for £117m…
Arsenal having so far made no direct contact with Newcastle United but now finally making a formal offer, according to their friend at BBC Sport, even if it is only a lowball £70m.
The BBC Sport reporter adds: ‘Arsenal are determined to strengthen their squad with high quality players this summer as they look to build on last season’s title. The north London side were interested in signing Morgan Rogers, who has joined Chelsea for £117m, from Aston Villa – but refused to go higher than their £80m valuation of the player. It is understood Arsenal were given the opportunity to match Chelsea’s offer for Rogers but declined. Similarly, Arsenal have a hardline maximum valuation of Guimaraes and are unwilling to overpay despite their desire to sign the midfielder.’
It is beyond embarrassing.
So Chelsea paid £117m for Morgan Rogers but Arsenal expected to get him for £80m.
Now they arrogantly think they can get Newcastle United’s talisman for £70m???
I hadn’t previously heard of Sami Mokbel but when I have looked back on his previous articles, he comes across as simply an Arsenal fan…no wonder he is fed this kind of thing from the Gunners.
Back on 8 May 2025, Sami Mokbel wrote: ‘Isak? Sesko? Gyokeres? Inside Arsenal’s summer plans. It is no secret Arsenal want to spend a large portion of their summer budget on a new striker. At the top of Arteta’s wishlist is Newcastle frontman Isak, and a move for the Sweden international has almost universal backing from those behind the scenes at Emirates Stadium. Well-placed sources have told BBC Sport that Isak would be open to a move to London, though he is likely to have other options – with Liverpool also interested.’
‘Well placed sources for the BBC Sport reporter?
Yes, Arsenal!
