Matias Fernandez-Pardo has now completed his Newcastle United medical.
Sky Sports revealing that the club’s medical team and the player: “Were not allowed to go to bed last [Monday] night until it was done. It was a late night!”
Keith Downie covers Newcastle United for the broadcaster and he has also revealed that Matias Fernandez-Pardo will wear the the number 20 shirt for United this season.
Downie states that Newcastle United have paid £51m for the exciting 21-year-old attacking player who can play all across the front line. reports elsewhere say that the deal is around £55m in total, with a transfer fee of £51m+ and then future potential add-ons taking the total up to that £55m mark.
It is now just a case of waiting for the formal announcement from Newcastle United to officially confirm Matias Fernandez-Pardo as the eighth summer signing for NUFC.
It has previously been reported that the Belgium international will sign on an initial five-year contract.
Matias Fernandez-Pardo was filmed (see below) arriving at Newcastle Airport late Monday and hence the player and NUFC medical team working into the early hours of Tuesday to get his medical completed.
Time is of the essence so that the new signing can join in with group training ASAP and then potentially make his debut on Saturday when Newcastle United host Bournemouth, looking to build on a first week of the 2026/27 season that brought two wins and a draw.
The 21-year-old was a key player for Lille last season as they finished third in Ligue 1 and qualified for the Champions League. He started 27 of the club’s 34 league games and scored eight Ligue 1 goals.
